Brass Lapel Pin Button Shield. Formed in 1884 as a prestigious fraternal organization reserved exclusively for Civil War Union veterans who volunteered prior to July 1, 1863, and served at least two years, the Union Veteran Legion is represented here by an official, authentic post-Civil War membership lapel stud pin (c. 1885–1900). Crafted from stamped brass with an original solid stud button backing firmly attached on the reverse, the shield-shaped badge measures approximately 0.85 inches high by 0.70 inches wide and features the stylized initials "UVL", the dates "1861 1865", and an outer border array of 28 stars. This unsigned piece presents in good antique condition with a rich, authentic brass patina, smooth age-appropriate surface wear, micro-scratches, light tarnish in the recessed fields, and sharp, legible relief detailing throughout.
