Railroad Photo CC McBride Cabinet Mount. This historically significant late 19th-century Western expansion photograph presents an impressive panoramic view titled "Lead City, S. D., looking southwest on the line of the B. & M. R. R. in the Black Hills," captured by regional photographer C. C. McBride of Crawford, Nebraska. Showing the burgeoning gold mining town of Lead, South Dakota—home to the famous Homestake Mine—nestled in the Black Hills landscape along the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad route, this original albumen/silver gelatin boudoir print carries immense collector appeal for historians of the American West, early railroading, South Dakota mining history, and 19th-century frontier photography. Photographed by C. C. McBride (Crawford, NE), estimated c. 1890s, original photo print mounted on heavy cabinet-card style cardstock mount, white negative-captioned in the lower left corner "Photo'd by C. C. McBride, Crawford, Neb.", print measures approximately 5 x 8 inches on a larger 8 x 10 inch mount. Displays expected signs of age including paper toning, edge foxing along the cream cardstock margin, corner softening, a small area of emulsion loss/flaking in the lower left corner above the caption, and faint silvering along the lower edge, though the panoramic town detail and depth remain remarkably sharp and clear; no major tears or severe mount breakage observed. See photos for close-up details.
