POE, EDGAR ALLAN. "The Raven" [in] The American Review: A Whig Journal of Politics, Literature, Art and Science. Vol I. No. 1-6. New York: Wiley and Putnam, 1845. 8vo (124 x 213 mm). [2], 656, iv pp. Modern brown half morocco and marbled boards. The first printed appearance of "The Raven." Poe's immortal poem appears below the pseudonym "Quarles" on pages 143-145 of the February issue. Also included is the first appearance of Poe's "Some Words With A Mummy," (pages 363-370) and two additional poems, "The Valley of Unrest" and "The City in the Sea" (on pages 392-393). Two early pieces by Walt Whitman appear as well: "The Boy-Lover" and "Death of Wind-Foot." Condition: Scattered light foxing (heaviest in index) but a clean copy.
