Additional engraved vignette title pages, frontispiece portrait in each volume, and numerous full-page steel engraved plates throughout after Cope, Ward, Leslie, Frith, and others. Publisher's 3/4 leather and pebbled cloth with gilt lettering and decoration, upper covers centered with gilt bust of Shakespeare, all edges gilt, light blue silk endpapers. Imperial edition, originally issued to subscribers in parts from 1873-76. Condition: Hinges expertly tightened, leather rubbing to corners and spine, some edgewear.
