AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > SNOB: A FANTASY SHOPPING SPREE, published by Helene Fox, Inc. in 1983. An unusual economic, auction and trading board game for 2 to 4 players, centered around conspicuous consumption, luxury shopping and accumulating high-value assets. Contemporary game databases credit Helene Fox as designer and publisher. Players move around a board featuring such upscale destinations as Fifth Avenue, Rodeo Drive, Worth Avenue, Michigan Avenue, Water Tower Place, Bal Harbour Shops and the Galleria, while acquiring luxury holdings including jewels, yachts, Palm Beach estates, Swiss bank accounts, oil wells, blue-chip stocks, Lear jets and furs. Auction and bidding elements allow players to compete for luxury assets, while Customer Service and credit cards affect each player's spending power. This is a scarce, short-lived independently published game rather than a mass-market Parker Brothers or Milton Bradley title. A particularly interesting piece of documentation surfaced from 1986, when a Florida sheriff's execution notice listed about 412 cases of Snob board games, four games per case, as property of Helene Fox, Inc. That surviving inventory—roughly 1,648 games—suggests the title did not achieve broad commercial distribution and helps explain why examples are relatively uncommon today. The SNOB trademark owned by Helene Fox, Inc. was filed in 1984, registered, and later cancelled in 1989, further documenting the comparatively brief life of the company and title. This example seems substantially complete from visual inspection, retaining the folding game board, instructions, card trays and multiple decks, Snob cards and notepad material, dice, colored glass playing pieces and drawstring bag as shown. The components and sophisticated black, gold and white graphics give the game a distinctive early-1980s luxury aesthetic. Strong collector appeal for rare board games, 1980s games, independent publishers, economic games, auction and bidding games, luxury culture, Palm Beach, Fifth Avenue, Rodeo Drive and unusual American pop-culture games. BOARD GAME DISCLAIMER > Games have not been inspected or inventoried to determine whether all pieces, cards, instructions, tokens or other components are present.
