1943 MOBILE, ALABAMA COCA-COLA FOOTBALL PROGRAM

AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Measuring 9" x 11", a 1943 University Military School vs. Murphy High School football program, produced as a 2-page foldout on slick glossy stock and featuring original syndicated cover artwork by noted American sports illustrator Lon Keller. Keller's signature appears at the lower left of the illustrated cover, which depicts a cheerleader holding progressively smaller reproductions of the same image in a striking picture-within-a-picture composition. Keller became one of America's foremost sports-program illustrators, producing hundreds of football and athletic covers during the Golden Era of illustrated sports ephemera. Working with publisher Don Spencer, Keller created nationally syndicated cover designs that could be overprinted locally with individual school names, opponents and game information. In 1940, Coca-Cola entered into a major arrangement with Spencer to distribute these illustrated programs to thousands of high schools nationwide, making Keller's artwork familiar to generations of American football spectators. The interior features printed rosters for University Military School and Murphy High School with player names, weights and positions, incorporated into a large period Coca-Cola advertisement headed TIME OUT for The pause that refreshes. The colorful scene depicts players and spectators gathered beside a horse-drawn wagon with a prominent Drink Coca-Cola advertising sign. The opposing page carries a full-page advertisement for Greer's Groceries, noting Serving Mobile For 27 Years and If It's Available -- GREER'S GOT IT. A particularly appealing combination of 1943 Mobile Alabama football history, Lon Keller sports illustration, Coca-Cola advertising, University Military School, Murphy High School and local commercial ephemera. CONDITION REPORT > Some folds, both horizontal and vertical, however remains quite well preserved otherwise.
