AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Image presents multiple aspects of one diminutive green molded rubber frog measuring around 1.5" overall, with exaggerated white and black eyes, broad smiling mouth and squat four-legged form. The hollow rubber body produces a faint squeak when compressed. Underside carries molded relief lettering KNOBBLER CO. LTD. ~ MADE IN TAIWAN, surrounding the central air opening. This comical green frog became familiar to millions of computer users through the frog user-account picture included with Microsoft Windows XP, released in 2001. The frog was one of the selectable images displayed on the Windows XP Welcome and User Accounts screens, alongside such memorable subjects as the rubber duck, chess pieces and other photographic icons. Period Windows discussions specifically reference the frog among the standard XP account images. The same distinctive frog also appears among the objects photographed for Columbia University’s COIL-100 Object Image Library, an early computer-vision dataset containing 100 physical objects photographed through 72 rotational views. Published research specifically identifies the frog among the COIL-100 objects, providing an unusual connection between this little novelty toy and early computer imaging research. Interest in identifying the actual physical frog used for the Windows XP image has developed into something of an internet-era collecting mystery, with enthusiasts continuing to compare surviving rubber frog toys against the familiar Microsoft image.
