AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A whimsical mid-century modern Oliv-Art Spanish olive wood cocktail pick holder, formed as a stylized bull and accompanied by six hors d'oeuvre picks. As displayed with the picks in place, the group stands around 4" tall, with the wood body measuring around 4.5" long x 1" wide, not including the wire pick holders at the sides. The sculptural bull is carved from richly figured Spanish olive wood, with a rounded head, compact body and block-form legs. Details include black leather ears, a short rope tail, and hand-painted eyes with drawn pupils and eyelashes, giving the piece a playful modernist character. Six individual hors d'oeuvre picks with turned wood handles rest vertically in metal wire holders positioned along the sides of the bull. Designed for cocktail bar service, the picks would have been used for olives, cheese, fruit and other small appetizers. Original foil label remains intact to the underside and reads Oliv-Art ~ Made in Spain. Oliv-Art operated in Manacor, Mallorca, Spain, and became especially popular during the 1960s and 1970s for whimsical modernist and Brutalist-influenced tableware carved from Spanish olive wood. Animal and figural forms were a specialty of the firm, with the bull among the most recognizable designs and a direct reference to traditional Spanish imagery. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered ~ A notably well preserved example
