AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage 1982 Artek reproduction produced for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, presenting a Byzantine Nativity relief in molded faux ivory polymer and designed to replicate the appearance of an early carved ivory devotional panel. The deeply modeled scene depicts the Nativity in the Byzantine tradition, with the reclining Virgin Mary, infant Christ, Saint Joseph and attendant figures arranged within a densely carved architectural composition. The Greek inscription ? G????C?C appearing near the upper portion translates as THE NATIVITY. Produced in 1982, examples of this plaque are documented as Artek reproductions for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and associated with the Vatican Collections. The warm ivory coloration and finely molded relief were intended to reproduce the appearance and dimensional character of medieval Byzantine ivory carving. The piece represents both a decorative religious work and a museum reproduction tied to one of the most important traditions of Byzantine devotional art.
