An RCBS three die set for the 38-40 Winchester in the old yellow and green RCBS cardboard box printed RELOADING IS FUN. The set is three dies wrapped in tissue paper, and the sizing die body is stamped RCBS 38-40 F.L. for full length. An old ink price of $13.50 is written on the box. The 38-40 Winchester, properly the 38 WCF, is an 1874 vintage round that actually throws a .401 inch bullet, and it was chambered in the Winchester 1873 and 1892 lever guns and in the Colt Single Action Army. Anybody shooting one of those, or a modern cowboy action replica, has to handload, because factory ammunition is scarce and costly. The case has a sharp shoulder and thin brass, so the right dies matter. Vintage RCBS boxes like this one are collected on their own. Dies are clean with light surface oil and normal handling marks, threads and lock rings are intact and no rust or galling is visible in the photos. Condition is very good. Estimated Value: $45 to $75 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot. Written descriptions are a guide only and may contain errors.
