antique percussion cap muzzleloading pistol, typically crafted in the Ottoman Empire, the Balkans, or Persia during the mid-to-late 19th century. Dimension : 20"L . The Lock Mechanism features a percussion cap lock (caplock) system, which replaced the older flintlock mechanism. The hammer is sculpted in a stylized, serpentine "S" shape. When released, it strikes a small explosive percussion cap placed on a hollow nipple to ignite the main powder charge inside the barrel. The pommel cap area is embellished with four diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlays arranged in a cross configuration. This style of organic shell inlay is a classic decorative hallmark of Ottoman and Balkan workshops. The top of the steel barrel features elegant floral arabesques and line borders executed in gold inlay. This technique involved cross-hatching the steel surface and hammering fine gold foil into the grooves.
