classic Ottoman Balkan "Kubur" Miquelet-Lock Pistol, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. Dimension:16"L. . The prominent mechanical assembly in the center is a miquelet lock, a distinctive type of flintlock mechanism popular throughout the Ottoman Empire, the Caucasus, and the Mediterranean. The stylized, curved upper arm (resembling a stylized figure or bird) serves as the cock. It features an integrated vise designed to clamp a piece of flint securely between its upper and lower jaws. Directly across from the cock sits the frizzen—the striking plate attached to the gunpowder pan cover. When the trigger is pulled, the cock snaps forward, striking the flint against this metal plate to create sparks that ignite the priming powder underneath. The lock plate, cock, and adjacent barrel section are heavily adorned with intricate gold damascene inlay (also known as koftgari), forming complex geometric and floral scrollwork. Along the upper spine of the iron barrel, you can see remnants of linear gold inlay work, especially near the muzzle ring and around the breech block. The "lemon-style" pommel is assembled from two joined hemispheres of cast metal. It features deeply chased foliate scrolls, geometric borders, and a distinct central band.
