Late 19th C. Victorian Settee Frame & Stool Frame

Late 19th-century Victorian carved mahogany settee or loveseat frame accompanied by a coordinating stool frame. The settee features a gracefully undulating serpentine crest rail centered by carved foliate ornament, curved open arms, shaped seat rails and slender cabriole-style front legs, while the separate rectangular footstool is raised on particularly attractive deeply carved scrolling floral legs. The exposed frames reveal traditional upholstery construction and substantial age, with extensive evidence of previous upholstery tack and nail placement. Condition is incomplete, with upholstery, padding, webbing and associated trim entirely absent; extensive old insect/woodworm damage and deterioration are visible along portions of the seat rails and crest framing, including areas of significant surface loss and weakened wood. The settee also shows later replacement or reinforcement members, repairs, open joints, losses, abrasions and finish wear, while the footstool likewise shows age-related wear and exposed upholstery rails. Although requiring comprehensive structural and upholstery restoration before use, the surviving carved elements retain considerable decorative character and make the lot suitable for a furniture restorer, upholsterer, or period-interior project. Measures 35"H x 55"W x 25"D seat height is 12"H and end table is 18"H x 21.25"W x 16.5"D.
