Pair of antique wooden armchairs dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, offered together as an appealing mismatched pair unified by warm brown finishes, woven cane seats, shaped arms, and turned stretcher bases. The more elaborately decorated chair displays strong Victorian/Eastlake influence, with a peaked architectural crest incorporating incised geometric ornament, a row of turned spindle details, shaped central splat with diamond-form decoration, molded rails, angular scrolling arms, turned front legs, and double front stretchers. The companion chair has a simpler country/Victorian character with a gently curved ladder back composed of three broad horizontal rails, gracefully shaped arms, turned legs, and decorative turned stretchers. Both retain circular hand-woven cane seats, giving the pair an attractive lightness while preserving their period character. Condition is consistent with age and use, with scattered scuffs, scratches, finish wear, abrasions, discoloration and minor losses to the wooden surfaces; the caning shows age and wear with areas of looseness, irregularity and broken or missing strands, particularly around portions of the perimeter, and the two chairs differ in design, coloration and construction as expected of a matched-for-display rather than originally manufactured pair. Measures 33"H x 19"W x 16.5"D and 34.5"H x 19.5"W x 16.75"D and seat height for both is 17"H
