Pair of mahogany side chairs in the Queen Anne and early Chippendale taste, each featuring a shaped yoke-form crest rail above an elongated pierced and carved vase-form splat with stylized foliate openwork, descending to an upholstered slip seat covered in blue geometric-patterned fabric. The molded seat rails are raised on graceful cabriole front legs terminating in rounded pad feet, with straight rear legs supporting the tall backs. The chairs have an appealing dark reddish-brown mahogany finish and a restrained, elegant profile derived from 18th-century English seating forms. Condition shows scattered scratches, edge rubbing and finish wear to the frames, particularly around the seat rails and legs, along with a visible horizontal age crack or separation through one crest rail; upholstery appears comparatively later and remains generally presentable with light use wear. Measures 42"H x 19.5"W x 17"D and seat height is 18"H.
