Hand-carved and painted wooden Northern saw-whet owl by J.C. West dated 1975 , modeled perched upright on a naturally weathered wood base. The owl features large inset yellow eyes, a rounded head with finely painted spotting, bold black-and-cream facial markings, patterned brown and tan plumage, and carved feet gripping the rustic perch. The back is decorated with pale feather spots and incised wing and tail detailing. The underside retains faded handwritten inscriptions identifying J.C. West as the maker, with additional partially legible notation. Condition shows age-related wear including scattered scratches, rubbing and minor paint loss, while the natural wood base exhibits checking, cracks and weathering consistent with age. Measures 8.5"H x 3.5"W x 3.5"D.
