Extensive late 19th-century Victorian scrapbook filled with colorful chromolithograph trade cards, advertising pieces, die-cuts, greeting scraps, floral subjects, birds, cats, dogs, children, figures, scenic views, and other period ephemera. Particularly appealing pages feature a large dressed cat portrait surrounded by smaller feline die-cuts, elaborate floral and Christmas scraps, bird and animal advertising cards, and numerous product and merchant cards including examples for Gail’s Best Snuff and other period goods. The album reflects the popular Victorian pastime of assembling commercially printed scraps and advertising cards into decorative compositions, with many pieces retaining strong color and detailed lithography. The scrapbook shows extensive age and use, including toning, foxing, edge tears, losses, brittle and chipped pages, loose or partially detached elements, creasing, adhesive residue, and general handling wear throughout.Measures 17"H x 14"W.
