A striking fusion of art and technology, this modernist electronic sculpture transforms the exposed architecture of a working electrical circuit into a carefully balanced geometric composition. Resistors, capacitors, diodes, integrated circuits, and other electronic components are arranged across a light textured ground and interconnected by slender metal leads, creating an almost architectural network of lines, forms, and suspended shadows. Small amber-colored diodes add subtle points of color throughout the otherwise industrial composition. The reverse retains the original label identifying the work as “Electronic Sculpture” by H. L. Van Ness, numbered #80, with instructions noting that the sculpture was designed to operate on alkaline C-cell batteries and that its diode action would slow as the batteries aged; the label is also signed H. L. Van Ness. Presented under glass in a silver-tone metal frame with a neutral mat. The battery compartment and associated mounting area on the reverse are damaged and the electrical operation has not been verified; the frame exhibits scattered scuffs and scratches, with additional minor age-related surface wear to the presentation materials. Sight measures 9.5" x 7.5". Frame measures 14.25" x 11.25".
