A richly atmospheric 19th century pastoral landscape centered on a shepherd guiding a clustered flock of sheep along a winding country road beside still water, with dense trees and heavy cloud cover creating a moody, almost storm-laden setting. The composition is handled with loose, expressive brushwork in deep greens, grays, muted browns, and soft touches of blue and cream, giving the scene strong movement and depth while the reflections at right add a quiet counterpoint to the advancing flock. The work is signed C.B. Olive near the lower right and is presented under glass with a wide neutral mat in a handsome dark wood and gilt-accented frame. The frame shows scuffs, scratches, rubbing, and scattered finish wear consistent with age and handling. Sight measures 9.75" x 7.25". Frame measures 16.75" x 14.5".
