An attractive mid-19th century engraved map titled “A New Map of Tennessee with its Roads and Distances from Place to Place Along the Stage & Steam Boat Routes,” published by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co., Philadelphia, circa 1850. The detailed cartography depicts Tennessee by county with towns, rivers, roads, rail routes, and geographic features, supplemented by inset maps of the Environs of Nashville and Environs of Knoxville. A substantial steam boat route table at lower right records distances from Nashville and Florence toward New Orleans and Pittsburgh, while an explanation key appears at lower left. The map retains its decorative interlaced border and warm aged paper tone, giving it strong period character. Presented under glass in a simple gilt-toned wood frame. The map exhibits age-related toning, scattered spotting and discoloration, and some minor surface irregularities consistent with its age; the frame shows scuffs, scratches, rubbing, and general finish wear. Map measures 15.5" x 11.5". Frame measures 16.5" x 12.5".
