A wonderfully atmospheric pair of mid-century Chicago city views captures the energy, architecture, and nightlife of the downtown streets through bold graphic forms and a restrained palette of black, brown, tan, gray, and touches of red. One composition depicts a bustling nighttime intersection filled with pedestrians and period automobiles beneath an ornate projecting street clock, while the companion view looks across the Chicago River toward monumental downtown architecture and an elevated bridge, its illuminated windows and red signal lights reflected across the dark water below. Executed as original serigraphs, the works display Coomer’s distinctive simplified architectural forms, strong contrasts, and stylized urban perspective. Each is artist signed along the lower margin, one at the lower right and the other at the lower left. Original W. T. Burger Co., La Porte, Indiana labels remain on the reverse identifying the works as “Original Serigraph” and giving the subjects as “State & Washington” and “Merchandise Mart,” with Mark Coomer listed as the artist. Both are presented in coordinating wide black frames with cream-toned inner moldings. The serigraphs exhibit scattered age-related staining and foxing, particularly in the exposed margins; the frames show stains, scuffs, scratches, rubbing, and general surface wear, while the original paper backings are heavily torn, brittle, and deteriorated in areas, consistent with age and handling. Sights measures 11.5" x 8.5" each. Frames measure 19" x 16".
