A silver-plated tea and coffee service by Wm. A. Rogers, decorated in the Gainsborough pattern. The service includes a coffee pot, a teapot, a twin-handled sugar bowl, and a milk jug. Each item features a lobed, panelled body embellished with repoussé floral sprays and scrolling foliate motifs in the Rococo Revival style. The tea and coffee pots are equipped with hinged lids topped with urn-shaped finials and have black heat-insulated scrolling handles. The sugar bowl and milk jug are finished with scrolling handles and interiors showing a light gilt wash. The underside of each piece is stamped with the pattern name Gainsborough, the maker mark Wm. A. ROGERS, S P COMPY, B. M. MTS, and the model number 6678. Hand-etched inventory marks are also visible on the bases. Dimensions: Teapot height approx. 16 cm Coffee pot height approx. 23 cm Sugar bowl height approx. 9 cm Milk jug height approx. 10 cm. Condition: The set presents in good overall condition with minor surface scratches and light tarnish consistent with age and use. The silver plating is largely intact with no significant areas of wear-through to the base metal. There are no apparent dents or previous repairs.
