He earned 25 All Star selections under the era's selection format, captured the 1957 National League MVP Award, won three Gold Glove Awards and helped lead the Milwaukee Braves to the 1957 World Series championship. Aaron's defining moment came on April 8, 1974, when he launched career home run No. 715 to surpass Babe Ruth and become Major League Baseball's all time home run leader, accomplishing the feat while enduring extraordinary pressure and hostility and creating one of the most celebrated moments in American sports history. He ultimately extended the record to 755 home runs, a mark that stood for more than three decades. Aaron was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1982, receiving 97.8 percent of the vote, and remained one of baseball's most respected figures until his passing in 2021 at the age of 86.
