Artist: Alfred Birdsey (1912–1996) Title: Bermuda Harbour (descriptive title) Medium: Oil on canvas Sight: Approx. 17 × 21.5 in. Framed: Approx. 22 × 26 in. Signature: Signed “BIRDSEY” lower right Subject: Bermuda coastal harbour with sailboats and island architecture. An attractive original oil on canvas by celebrated Bermudian modernist Alfred Birdsey, depicting a tranquil Bermuda harbour viewed from an elevated coastal position. Artist Biography Alfred Birdsey (1912–1996) was born in England and moved to Bermuda as a child. He became one of the island's most recognizable 20th-century painters and is particularly associated with modernist interpretations of Bermuda's harbours, coastal villages, sailboats, houses and landscapes. His mature work combines representation with increasingly simplified and abstract forms. Birdsey worked extensively in watercolour but also produced oils, and maintained his studio at Rosecote in Paget for decades. His importance to Bermudian art was recognized with a major retrospective at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in 2022–23.
