A strong original graphic work by noted Canadian printmaker Otis Tamasauskas, titled Harp 2 and dated 1991. The composition combines energetic black linear forms with saturated passages of ochre-yellow, rust-red, orange and deep blue, creating a richly layered abstract image characteristic of Tamasauskas’s experimental approach to printmaking. Artist Biography Otis Kazys Tamasauskas was born in Tirschenreuth, Germany in 1947 to Lithuanian parents and immigrated to Canada as a child. He received his BFA from the University of Windsor and developed a distinguished career as a printmaker, master printer and educator. He served as Master Printer and Director of Etching at Toronto's Open Studio and has taught printmaking at McMaster University, the University of Toronto and Queen’s University. Tamasauskas is particularly recognized for expanding traditional printmaking through combinations of lithography, woodcut, engraving, photographic processes, collage and unconventional materials. His work frequently incorporates layered surfaces, found imagery and organic forms. His career includes major exhibitions in Canada, including a 1990 presentation of his new woodcuts at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and exhibitions at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery and Mira Godard Gallery.
