Artist Biography: Jack Henry Pollock (1930–1992) was a prominent Canadian painter, art educator, author, and one of Canada's most influential art dealers. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London, England, Pollock established the renowned Pollock Gallery in Toronto in 1960, where he became instrumental in promoting many of Canada's leading contemporary artists. He is especially recognized for discovering and championing Norval Morrisseau, helping launch Morrisseau's career onto the international stage.Alongside his work as a dealer, Pollock maintained an active painting practice throughout his life. His paintings are characterized by expressive abstraction, bold colour, energetic brushwork, and spontaneous compositions reflecting the influence of Abstract Expressionism while retaining a distinctly Canadian sensibility. His works are represented in public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, and he remains an important figure in Canadian art history.
