Artist Biography: John Kenneth Esler (1933–2001) was a respected Canadian painter, printmaker, and educator whose work played an important role in the development of contemporary printmaking in Canada during the 1960s and 1970s. Esler specialized in lithography, etching, and mixed graphic techniques, producing works that ranged from abstract compositions to symbolic and mythological themes. His prints are represented in numerous Canadian public collections, including the Art Windsor-Essex collection, which holds several examples of his colour intaglio, planographic prints, and etchings from the 1960s and 1970s.Esler's work reflects the influence of post-war Modernism while maintaining a distinctive visual language rooted in symbolism, texture, and narrative.
