Oscar W. Peterson (1887-1951) Cadillac, MI c.late 1930's 7" long Carved mouth with carved gills. Two lead chambers in underside. Painted tack eyes. Peterson was a highly influential American folk artist renowned for his captivating fish decoys and carvings. Peterson's unique carving and painting style, which influenced numerous regional carvers, is now recognized as the "Cadillac style". His work is highly regarded and is held in numerous major private collections as well as in prestigious institutions like the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Brooklyn Museum.Condition: Good and original paint with even wear from use including light to moderate paint loss on fins, paint loss to tack eye and underbelly. Jigging line wrap marks in the paint. Lower tail chip repair.
