Oscar W. Peterson (1887-1951) Cadillac, MI c. early 1940's 7.25" long Rare species for maker with desirable deeply carved and silver painted eyes. Carved mouth with carved red painted gills. Peterson was a highly influential American folk artist renowned for his captivating fish decoys and carvings. Peterson's unique carving and painting style, which influenced numerous regional carvers, is now recognized as the "Cadillac style". His work is highly regarded and is held in numerous major private collections as well as in prestigious institutions like the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Brooklyn Museum.Condition: Very good and original with paint loss to tail edge, moderate paint loss to fins, and heavy paint loss to the body bottom and lower jaw
