Canvas. Title: Woman in a Black Hat Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 29 x 21 inches (73.7 x 53.3 cm) Year: Circa early-20th century Modernist period Condition: Fair to good condition. The painted surface presents strong coloration and clear figural definition. Minor surface wear, tonal variation, and handling marks consistent with age may be present. The reverse of the canvas exhibits visible discoloration and areas of staining, particularly along the lower portion. The ornate frame shows age-related wear and scattered losses. The work remains stable and display-ready. Provenance: From a private New York collection. According to verbal history supplied by the previous owner, the work was discovered aboard a vessel arriving from Italy in 1967 and subsequently entered the collection, where it remained in private hands. Supporting documentation concerning the circumstances of the discovery and the work’s earlier ownership is unavailable.
