Title: 0 Through 9 Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 32 x 24 inches (81.3 x 61 cm) Year: 1961 Condition: Good condition. The surface presents substantial layered pigment application, energetic brushwork, and varied areas of texture throughout. Minor surface wear and handling marks consistent with age may be present. The canvas appears stable and display-ready, retaining its strong coloration and overall visual impact. Presented framed. Provenance: From a private Florida collection. According to verbal history, the work was purchased from the contents of a New York estate in 1996 and transported to Florida shortly thereafter, where it remained in private hands. The above provenance reflects the ownership history that accompanied the artwork at the time it was received for cataloging. Visual Description: This densely layered abstract composition combines broad gestural passages of red, yellow, orange, blue, green, gray, black, and white with sweeping linear elements. Curving outlines and intersecting vertical and horizontal lines suggest overlapping numerical forms embedded within the painted field. Thick, irregular brushstrokes create a highly active surface, while the repeated arcs and loops guide the eye through the composition. The contrast between vivid blocks of color and darker linear structures produces a strong sense of movement, compression, and layered spatial complexity. Additional Information: The reverse bears a large inscription reading “Jasper Johns 0–9 ’61,” together with an affixed label identifying the title as 0 Through 9, the medium as oil on canvas, the dimensions as 32 x 24 inches, and the year as 1961. Additional stamps are visible on the reverse. These elements are recorded for cataloging purposes and do not independently establish authenticity, prior ownership, or a documented gallery transaction. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
