Orange and Brown Color Field Composition Technique: Oil on board Measures: 31½ × 23½ inches (80 × 60 cm), based on the reverse label. Year: 1964, as stated on the reverse label. Condition: Good overall condition. The painted surface presents broad areas of deep brown against a luminous orange ground, divided by a horizontal red passage. Visible brushwork, tonal variation, and surface texture are present throughout. Minor handling and age-related wear may be visible. Presented in a black frame. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description. Provenance: The reverse bears a Pierre Matisse Gallery label, New York, identifying the artist as Mark Rothko and stating a 1964 date, dimensions of approximately 31½ × 23½ inches (80 × 60 cm), and oil on board. From a private collection. Visual Description: The composition is organized around two substantial dark brown rectangular fields suspended within an intense orange ground. A narrow horizontal band of saturated red separates the upper and lower forms. The deliberately softened, irregular edges and subtle tonal modulation within the darker passages evoke the contemplative spatial relationships associated with mid-century Color Field painting. COLLECTOR'S NOTE: This hand-created artwork offers collectors an opportunity to enjoy the visual language, technique, composition, and artistic characteristics associated with the named artist at a substantially more accessible price point than authenticated works by that artist, which may command significantly higher prices in the established fine-art market. Offered “in the style of” the named artist, the work should be appreciated and valued on its own merits as a hand-created piece inspired by an important artistic tradition. It provides an accessible way to acquire a visually compelling artwork reflecting the aesthetic qualities associated with a celebrated artist without the price expectations attached to an authenticated work.
