Technique: Oil and enamel on Masonite Measures: 23½ × 31½ inches (60 × 80 cm) Year: 1951 Condition: Good overall condition. The composition presents a dense network of energetic poured, dripped, and gestural passages in black, gray, white, and red. Minor surface and handling wear consistent with age and presentation may be present. The work is presented framed and displays well. Provenance: The reverse bears a Betty Parsons Gallery label, 15 East 57th Street, New York City, identifying the work as “Jackson Pollock, Untitled,” signed and dated “Jackson Pollock 51,” oil and enamel on Masonite, measuring 23½ × 31½ inches (60 × 80 cm), and stating that it was painted in 1951. Betty Parsons Gallery operated at 15 East 57th Street and was closely associated with Jackson Pollock during this period. Archival and museum records document Pollock exhibitions at the gallery in 1951, providing historical context for the gallery information appearing on the reverse label. Visual Description: A dynamic Abstract Expressionist composition dominated by an intense red ground overlaid with interlacing black, gray, and white paint. Sweeping lines, splashes, drips, and pooled passages create a highly active surface in which layers repeatedly cross and interrupt one another. The contrast between the vivid red field and darker gestural marks gives the composition substantial visual energy and depth.
