These early 20th century German individual-focus binoculars are the "Delactis" 8x40 model produced by Carl Zeiss in Jena. Prism cover plates bear the framed "CARL ZEISS JENA" logo, "DELACTIS", serial number "1100653", and "8x40" designation. The binoculars feature a metal frame with textured body coverings and measure 6 inches high by 7.5 inches wide (15.2 cm H x 19.1 cm W) and weigh 1054 grams (2 lbs 5.2 oz). Both the central hinge and individual diopter adjustments move smoothly. Optical glass shows internal hazing and dust spotting in both viewing channels, affecting image clarity. All external surfaces except the diopter adjustment rings have been repainted; wear with paint flaking and exposed brass is visible along the prism cover and lens barrel edges. An leather neck strap remains attached.
