Produced during World War II for German artillery forces, this periscopic panoramic sight mount base displays top plate stampings reading "L.O.Nr.4", serial/assembly number "Sr. 972", and designation "M". The mount base measures 4.75 inches high by 4.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep (12.1 cm H x 11.4 cm W x 8.9 cm D) with a 2.75-inch main body housing diameter (7.0 cm) and weighs 1273 grams (2 lbs 12.9 oz). Constructed with heavy steel and brass housing components, a vertical mounting spindle, silvered 6400-mil azimuth scale bands, and a side-mounted micrometer drum assembly, the unit maintains full mechanical movement across all adjustment controls and locking thumbscrews. The top-mounted circular bullseye spirit level remains intact with its internal bubble indicator fluid present. All olive-drab green field paint and metal patinas remain unrestored, displaying age-appropriate paint chipping, edge rubbing, and light surface patina.
