ca. dated 1791; Attributed to Johann Friederich Krebs (active 1784-1814) working as a schoolmaster in Dauphin Co., PA. Freehand watercolor illustrated and two-color Fraktur written German dialect "House Blessing" and birth record for Johannes Nicolaus Stuber and Maria Clara Stuberin. The fraktur is ink and watercolor done on screen-laid paper. The illustrations are haphazardly done with crowned lion standing upright with front paws on flowing tulip vines. The tulip stems are a primitive textbox for the original record. The heading has a central shield motif textbox with primitively drawn flying angels with sprigs in hand. The Scribner-work is bold and well executed through the central portion of the piece which appears to have been a "House Blessing" originally with an attempt to fill-in birth announcement for a child born 23rd day of February in 1791. The parents are listed in the lower quarter. The artist finished the record with "Godes so Lang Mir Leben" (As long as I shall live). The Fraktur is mounted in a modern flat mold cherry wood frame; Frame 20" x 17 1/2"; Condition: Attributed to Krebs by form. Record is unlisted as to location. It has extensive fold lines with evidence of repairs to fold separations, some infill to left edge. *Note - not removed from frame
