ca. 1820-1860; Attributed to Connecticut shop of Oliver Filley. The hinged domed lid box is rolled tin sheet and solder constructed with lid hinged on tin wrapped wire with a wire ring tote and hinged hasp keeper. It has a brownish tone asphaltum-lacquer ground, the front has hand painted accents of red currant berries and leaves on gray upper border with three-color floral swag design. The lid has center palmetto leaf design, two-color trailing leaf design and golden swag and the end panels have leaf and swag brushstroke design; 9" x 5" x 5 1/2"; Condition: Retains much of original surface with minimal scratches. Approx. 95% original surface intact.
