ca. 1870's; Crafted by Adam Scheuerman, cabinet maker & store owner, Poplar St. Philadelphia. The finely crafted model is to scale with stone or brick facade, large spire over bell tower, and four arched-top windows on either side. The front facade has a central arched window above the recessed door opening, roof with a soldier capping across ridge and each row of shingles with scroll-cut scalloped edge. The church is surround by a fine hand-crafted iron fencing. The structure and courtyard painted with a sand-coat paint and the interior of the church has pews and fine rasied central altar; 27" x 18 1/4" x 44 1/2"H; [Note: The maker was a Civil War Union soldier who began work on a Christmas Yard Village after his discharge from the Army. The model is of his beloved St. Paul's Lutheran Church. It was passed down to his granddaughter Bearley Karsch prior to its sale. Provenance: ex- Ted Mauer; ex- Brearley & Carl Karsch collection]; Condition: The bell tower originally was designed with chime systems that are no longer working. The churchyard is missing a few sections of fencing, some minor paint cracks, but otherwise very good condition.
