An English needlework sampler by Ann Madwell, circa 1840, featuring alphabet rows, numerals, and a religious verse. The work is executed on a linen ground and housed in a wood frame. Stitched characters read ANN MADWELL and a verseincluding I dare choose my not if I might Choose for my God So I aright. A typewritten label on the reverse reads Framed sampler, England, circa 1840. Frame measures 13 x 15.75 inches.Overall age-related browning and discoloration to the linen ground. Embroidery threads show fading and areas of loss, particularly in the verse section. The frame exhibits scuffs and small nicks consistent with age, while the paper backing is brittle
