This large Clement Dube hand-carved wood sculpture depicts a dynamic encounter between two bears around a stylized tree. The hardwood piece features deep rhythmic gouge marks to represent thick fur, set upon an integral base with a smalltree stump. The back edge of the base is incised with the signature C. Dubé, a mark characteristic of Quebec folk art woodcarving. The underside is finished with a green felt liner. 17 x 17.75 x 13 inches.Significant chip and splintering at the top of the small tree stump. Minor surface scuffs and nicks to the stained finish. The green felt on the underside shows wear and is peeling at the edges.
