Square side table on four fluted tapered legs with turned ball collars and carved acanthus and scroll capitals at the feet, in the Neoclassical or Directoire revival taste. The top is a four way book matched quartered veneer panel inside a mitred cross banded border, framed by a solid molded edge, in a ring porous wood with strong ray fleck. Book matched tops of this kind commonly lift or crack at the center match, so it is worth saying that this one does not. The center point is tight with no lifting, no bubble and no radiating crack, and all four miter joints are closed. The apron is solid with shaped ogee corner blocks and a reeded dentil band. No maker mark. Condition is fair. The top has broad finish abrasion with the open pores worn pale, worst across the front right, and there is an edge chip at the front left corner. Sold as-is.
