A pair of Canadian silver 25-cent coins issued during the reign of Queen Victoria. These specimens are struck in .925 fine silver and feature the laureated young head portrait of the Queen facing left on the obverse. The obverse legend reads VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA with the word CANADA positioned at the base. The reverse design consists of a central field for the denomination and date, encircled by a wreath of sixteen maple leaves tied with a ribbon at the base, all surmounted by a crown. One specimen is clearly dated 1872, while the central field of the second coin is worn smooth. These early Dominion of Canada issues were primarily struck at the Royal Mint in London and the Heaton Mint in Birmingham. Suggested reference (unverified): KM# 5.
