Menton Festival. Jean Cocteau (French, 1889-1963) This hand-painted drawing on paper features a stylized, intertwined composition of a human profile and a bull/minotaur head, accented with a lyre and laurel leaves. Executed in colored pencils with bold black outlines, vibrant hues of red, yellow, green, and brown are used, alongside text reading "festival," "Menton," and "1956." Signed vertically 'Jean Cocteau' on the right side. Unframed. Jean Cocteau was a celebrated French poet, playwright, writer, painter, film director, and designer. Elected to the French Academy in 1955, he was a highly influential artist of the first half of the 20th century. Cocteau was renowned for his diverse artistic contributions and his associations with leading figures of his time in France.
