Clementine Hunter (American, 1886-1988) Oil on board, featuring two silhouetted figures in profile, facing a central still life of vibrant red, white, and yellow flowers in a yellow pitcher. The figures wear colorful headwraps and garments in shades of green, black, yellow, lavender, and purple against a pink and light blue background. Signed 'JH' lower right. Framed. Clementine Hunter was a self-taught African American folk artist from Louisiana's Cane River region. Born on a plantation, she worked as a field laborer and never learned to read or write. Her vibrant paintings depict daily life and traditions of the Southern Black rural experience.
