and Bison Poncho Original Loom-Woven Alpacril Garment. Elizabeth Quispe (Peruvian) Feathered Warrior and Bison Poncho Original Loom-Woven Alpacril Garment DESCRIPTION This striking hooded textile poncho is an original creation by Peruvian artisan Elizabeth Quispe, associated with Alpaca Tikari. Woven on a loom in warm Alpacril yarn, the garment combines a generous traditional poncho silhouette with bold contemporary figurative and geometric decoration. The front is dominated by a powerful stylized portrait wearing an elaborate feathered headdress, symmetrically framed by two bison heads. The central composition is rendered in cream, black, and muted gray tones, creating a dramatic contrast against the deep black ground. The sides incorporate richly patterned textile panels in burgundy, cream, navy blue, and earthy tones, decorated with diamonds, stepped geometric forms, circular motifs, and contrasting borders. Additional geometric elements appear across the shoulders and lower corners, visually unifying the design. The garment includes a soft hood, a short front opening with two natural wooden-style buttons, wide draping sides, and a finely fringed lower edge. Its substantial proportions allow it to be worn comfortably as an outer garment while also giving it a strong decorative presence when displayed. Combining loom-based Peruvian textile craftsmanship with bold contemporary imagery, this original poncho is suitable as both a distinctive wearable garment and a collectible example of modern Latin American textile design. ARTIST Elizabeth Quispe is a contemporary Peruvian artisan working in ceramics and textiles. Her creations are characterized by expressive imagery, strong decorative contrasts, hand-crafted production, and the adaptation of traditional techniques to contemporary designs. PROVENANCE Acquired directly from the artist in Peru for Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. AUTHENTICITY This poncho is a completely original creation by Elizabeth Quispe and was acquired directly from the artist. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by the artist may be provided upon request, when available. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE Loom-woven Alpacril textile with hood, decorative woven imagery, geometric patterned panels, front buttons, and fringed lower edge. DIMENSIONS Approximate overall span when fully opened, measured from end to end: 78 3/4 in. (200 cm). COLLECTION NOTE Carefully selected directly from the artist in Peru by Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. as part of its ongoing effort to present original examples of contemporary Peruvian textile craftsmanship.
