Andean Poncho Original Loom-Woven Textile Garment. This striking hooded Andean poncho is an original textile creation by Peruvian artisan Elizabeth Quispe. Woven on a loom using warm Alpacril yarn, the garment combines a dramatic contemporary design with the practical form and visual presence of traditional Andean outerwear. The poncho features a deep black ground centered by a bold stylized skull wearing an elaborate feathered headdress. Contrasting geometric patterns in cream, gray, burgundy, orange, and earthy brown decorate the sides and sleeves, creating a powerful balance between figurative imagery and Andean-inspired textile ornamentation. A structured hood, short front opening, and natural wooden-style buttons provide warmth and functionality, while the wide silhouette allows the textile to fall freely over the body. The lower edge is completed with a woven fringe that adds movement and a carefully finished appearance. Combining traditional loom-based production with bold contemporary imagery, this original poncho is suitable both as a distinctive wearable garment and as a collectible example of modern Peruvian textile craftsmanship. ARTIST Elizabeth Quispe is a contemporary Peruvian artisan working in ceramics and textiles. Her creations combine hand-crafted production, expressive decorative subjects, and traditional Peruvian techniques interpreted through a modern visual language. PROVENANCE Acquired directly from the artist in Peru for Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. AUTHENTICITY This poncho is a completely original creation by Elizabeth Quispe and was acquired directly from the artist. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by the artist may be provided upon request, when available. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE Loom-woven Alpacril textile with hood, decorative geometric patterns, front buttons, and fringed lower edge. DIMENSIONS Approximate overall span when fully opened, measured from end to end: 78 3/4 in. (200 cm). COLLECTION NOTE Carefully selected directly from the artist in Peru by Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. as part of its ongoing effort to present original examples of Peruvian folk art and contemporary textile craftsmanship.
