Paul Gauguin (French, 1848-1903) Oil on canvas depicting a sleeping child with long golden hair resting beside a large wooden mug, set against a vibrant cobalt blue background with abstract white motifs. Signed upper left. Framed. Paul Gauguin was a French Post-Impressionist artist recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetic style. His work was highly influential to the development of modern art, particularly through his search for a "primitive" aesthetic. Gauguin is celebrated for his bold, simplified forms and his later career spent painting in French Polynesia.
