Francisco de Goya (Spanish, 1746-1828) Oil on canvas depicting a grotesque giant-like figure consuming a small human form against a dark, atmospheric background. Rendered with dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, the composition evokes the haunting imagery associated with Goya's late "Black Paintings" period. Signed lower right. Francisco de Goya is regarded as one of Spain's most influential artists and a precursor to modern art.
