Two German bisque head character baby dolls. The first doll is a Kammer & Reinhardt mold 143 character baby. The bisque socket head is incised on the reverse with Made in Germany, the K*R star mark, and mold number 143. It features blue glass sleep eyes with painted lashes, multi-stroke feathered brows, and an open mouth with two inset upper teeth. The doll is fitted with a blond mohair wig and is mounted on a five-piece jointed composition toddler body. It is dressed in an antique white cotton lawn christening gown with pleated and lace details, a matching bonnet, cotton undergarments, and cream knitted booties with pom-poms. The second doll is a Kley & Hahn mold 56 character baby. The bisque socket head is incised with K & K, 56, and Made in Germany on the reverse. It features brown glass sleep eyes and an open mouth with inset teeth. The doll has a blond wig and a mixed-material body consisting of a stuffed cloth torso and composition limbs. The lower legs feature molded and painted red tinting on the knees. It is dressed in mid-20th-century cotton pajamas with a repeating print of alarm clocks and bears, featuring a blue pocket embroidered with Fuzzy Wuzzy. Item 1 height: 21 inches, Item 2 height: 20 inches. These dolls show expected age-related wear consistent with their age and use. The bisque heads are well-preserved and show no visible damage. The composition bodies display characteristic surface crazing and typical age-toning, particularly on the legs of the Kammer & Reinhardt example. The cloth body and later clothing show general soiling from age. Sleep eye mechanisms appear functional.
