This lot includes two antique German bisque head dolls by the renowned makers Simon & Halbig and Armand Marseille. The first doll is a socket head example identified as a D 1/2 168 marked doll, featuring a bisque head incised with the markings S H 1079 8 1/2. It is mounted on a fully jointed composition and wood body which bears a red stamp reading Germany 3561. This doll is styled with a brown mohair wig with curls and brown glass sleep eyes. She is dressed in a grey herringbone wool coat with white collar and cuffs, a black belt with a metal buckle, black knit stockings, and black patent leather shoes. The second doll is an Armand Marseille mold 1893, incised C O D 93 1 1/2 DEP on the shoulder plate, indicating production for the French market. It features a bisque shoulder-head on a jointed kid leather body with bisque lower arms and cloth lower legs. This doll has a light brown mohair wig and blue glass sleep eyes. She is presented in a black velvet and crepe mourning ensemble with a lace-trimmed high collar and a matching black felt hat with netting. Both dolls have open mouths with four inset upper teeth. 19 inches & 20 inches. Both dolls are in good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. The bisque heads and shoulder plates are well-preserved and free of visible hairlines or cracks. The composition body on the socket head doll shows expected surface flaking and finish loss characteristic of its age. The kid leather body on the second doll exhibits darkening from age and includes a vintage tape repair on the upper left leg. Both wigs and costumes are in good state.
